6/6Belize City, Belize
Coxen Hole, Honduras
Belize (Belize City) to Bay Islands (Roatan – Coxen Hole) This trip offers a bit of everything. You will explore the beautiful island worlds of the Bay Islands (Honduras) and Belize with its large barrier reef and unique atolls, and also participate in a short blue-water sail. We will sail from Belize City via Lighthouse Atoll, a world-class diving and snorkeling area, to the Bay Islands, Isla Roatan. The starting point is Belize City, easily accessible via Cozumel/Mexico or Miami. The offshore atolls of Belize, with their turquoise water and small palm islands, are a paradise for divers and snorkelers. Apart from diving and snorkeling adventures, we will also explore the land and meet the locals on the many palm islands within the atolls. The focus of this first leg of the trip is Lighthouse Reef, a highlight both above and below the water, with the Halfmoon Cay nature reserve and bird sanctuary and the world-famous Blue Hole. Both are beautiful anchorages. From there, we sail approximately 100nm to Roatan Island, which is part of the Bay Islands group off Honduras. Roatan is known for its underwater world, whale sharks, iguanas, and the laid-back atmosphere in the main town. The reefs here form unique canyons and caves, providing shelter for many marine creatures and making it perfect for freediving or snorkeling. The trip ends in Coxen Hole (Roatan), where the international airport offers good flight connections to the USA.
