6/6Belize City, Belize
Rio Dulce, Guatemala
This journey offers very diverse impressions, as we will visit both the island paradise of Belize with its beautiful underwater world and sail far inland through the Rio Dulce river and the El Golfete lake. The starting point and main focus of the trip is Belize (Belize City) with its unique atolls in the Atlantic, as well as the second-largest barrier reef in the world, where we will sail from one dream island to the next. Freediving or snorkeling at Lighthouse Reef in the Blue Hole or Halfmoon Cay is world-class. The other atolls, Turneffe and Glover's Reef, with their turquoise blue water and small palm islands, are equally unique. In addition to snorkeling and freediving adventures, the land and its inhabitants are also worth exploring. An exciting adventure awaits as we sail to Rio Dulce (Guatemala) along the namesake river that winds for over 40 km through a stunning canyon and large lake, surrounded by jungle. With a bit of luck, you may spot manatees or visit waterfalls with hot springs along the way. You are almost certain to hear or see howler monkeys. Flights are best booked through the USA (Atlanta or Miami), from where there are affordable connections to Guatemala City (departure) or Belize City (arrival). It’s worthwhile to visit the pyramids in Guatemala, explore the colonial city of Antigua, or climb one of the many volcanoes over 3000 meters high before the sailing trip. From Guatemala City to Rio Dulce, there is a cost-effective, safe, and comfortable bus ride (Litega).
