Island Hopping in Belize (Arrival and Departure Belize City) Sail with us to the palm islands of Belize's Barrier Reef and to the offshore Lighthouse Atoll! Belize is home to the world's second-largest barrier reef. Along this reef chain, small palm islands stretch for hundreds of miles, having been spared from mass tourism due to their difficult accessibility, serving as protected anchorages for us. Several passes (cuts) in the barrier reef offer great freediving and snorkeling opportunities. The starting and end point of this trip is Belize City, which is accessible from Cozumel, Mexico, or the USA (Miami, Atlanta, Houston). In the first half of the trip, we will sail mostly within the reef. There, we will experience full trade winds, but completely calm waters thanks to the reef's protection. This trip is also ideal for sailors who tend to get seasick. We also plan to visit the Turneffe and Lighthouse Atolls – offshore atolls with turquoise blue water, small palm islands in the lagoon, and spectacular dive and snorkel spots along the outer reefs. Other potential destinations for this trip include Tobacco Cay, Southwater Cay, Queen Cays, Hatchet Cay, as well as the Turneffe, Glover, and Lighthouse Atolls, with the nature and bird sanctuary Halfmooncay and the UNESCO-protected dive spot Blue Hole.
