Island Hopping Guatemala (Rio Dulce) to Belize (Belize City)This trip offers very versatile impressions as we will visit both the island paradise of Belize with its beautiful underwater world and sail through the Rio Dulce River and Lake El Golfete from the interior of Guatemala to the sea. A wonderful adventure is the sail from Rio Dulce through the river, which winds through an impressive canyon and a large lake for over 40 km into the sea, passing through jungle. With a bit of luck, we might spot manatees or visit waterfalls with hot springs along the way. You will definitely hear or see howler monkeys. It's worth visiting the pyramids in Guatemala, seeing the colonial city of Antigua, or climbing one of the 3000m+ volcanoes before embarking on the sailing journey. The highlight of the journey is Belize with its unique atolls in the Atlantic and the second-largest barrier reef in the world, where we will sail from one dream island to the next. Freediving or snorkeling at Lighthouse Reef in the Blue Hole or Halfmoon Cay is world-class. Equally stunning are the other atolls, Turneffe and Glovers Reef, with their turquoise water and small palm islands. In addition to snorkeling and freediving adventures, we will also explore the land and meet the local inhabitants on the many palm islands within the reef or atolls. Flights are best via the USA (Atlanta or Miami), where you can find affordable connections to Guatemala City (for arrival) or Belize City (for departure). From Guatemala City, you can take an affordable, safe, and comfortable bus (Litega) to Rio Dulce.
