6/6Río Dulce, Guatemala
Belize City, Belize
2.11.26 to 9.11.26: Guatemala (Rio Dulce) – Island Hopping Belize (Belize City) This trip combines two completely different worlds: the tropical jungle of Guatemala and the island world of Belize. We begin in the Rio Dulce, one of the most beautiful rivers in Central America. From the sheltered river landscape we sail through narrow jungle-covered canyons and across the large lake El Golfete towards the Caribbean. Along the way you often hear howler monkeys in the jungle, spot pelicans and, with some luck, even manatees. Small waterfalls with hot springs are hidden deep within the rainforest. After the river, the Caribbean opens up before us. We set course for the first islands and reefs of Belize. The water becomes clearer, the nights calmer and small palm islands begin to appear on the horizon. As this is only a one-week trip, time in Belize is limited. Those who want to explore the atolls and reef systems in greater depth can continue directly on the following trip. In this case there is a 10% discount for joining the next leg (returning crew discount). Guatemala itself is also well worth a few extra days before the trip: Antigua, the Maya pyramids and the volcanoes of the highlands are among the most impressive places in Central America. Flights are best via the USA (Atlanta or Miami), Cancun/Mexico (with Tropic Air shuttle flight or bus) or Madrid, from where there are good connections to Guatemala City (arrival) and Belize City (departure). From Guatemala City to Rio Dulce there is a safe, comfortable and inexpensive bus connection (Litegua litegua.com or Cristobal Colon cristobalcolon.com.gt).
