URGENT: Traditional gaff-rigged ketch looking for volunteer crew for passage from Colon to Cuba, or all the way to New York or to eastern Canada. MUST HAVE VALID VISA FOR CUBA, USA AND/OR CANADA. Departing in three days! Final destination is Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada. Skipper has been aboard since February. Boat is a steel hulled gaff rigged cutter ketch, so lots of lines to play with. Last year the boat sailed down from Monterey, California to San Blas, Mexico. This year the boat has sailed from San Blas (Mexico) to Panama, all with no major issues. The topsides are cosmetically challenged as the boat was recently acquired, and is on its way home for restoration. Repairs so far have been focused on seaworthiness. The pace of the voyage will be fairly constant. The voyage plan is to go west of Cuba then to ride the Gulf Steam, up the coast to New York. From New York, up the Hudson river and out the Richelieu to the Saint-Lawrence. There's also a small chance that the boat will instead go around Nova Scotia, if the crew that we find doesn't have a US visa. Expected arrival at final destination is in June. Crew can hop-off in Cuba or New York if desired. Crew requirements: - able-bodied, solid morale and good attitude - the more experience the better - if you are handy or can cook, that is a big plus - can steer - absolutely no illegal drugs of any kind on the boat (including marijuana) - cigarettes OK outside - drinking limited - as this is a longer voyage, it would be too difficult to deal with dietary restrictions beyond easily-avoided allergies - valid passport and ability to enter all countries on the itinerary without problems Food costs will be split evenly among the crew. You need to have your own personal gear as well. You will need a sleeping bag and pillow, warm clothes and rain gear. Accommodations are not up to the standard of a modern production yacht. There is no shower, so bathing will be with a washcloth or ashore during stops. There is also a primitive deck shower in the form of a pressure garden sprayer. There is no water maker, so dish washing is with salt water (foot pump at the sink). Plenty of fresh water will be carried, to be used for drinking/cooking and washcloth bathing. Head is a Nature's Head "composting" model with bucket backup. Cooking underway is with a gimbaled kerosene stove. There is a small refrigerator. When anchored or near shore, the boat will have internet access for several hours per day, as solar power allows, with a Starlink connection.
