I recently purchased a bout in Annapolis, MD and I'm looking for 1-2 more crew to join me and another crew member on a sailing adventure from Annapolis to Florida (and possibly beyond) on a 46' liveaboard catamaran, ropes off mid-Nov. What we're looking for: Fun, energetic, and laid-back humans who are open to adventure, share similar interests and are not afraid to get hands-on running a boat. I acquired the boat as a project this year and I'm finishing up all the work needed to get her safe and seaworthy for the trip down to Ft Lauderdale, where I will haul out for a few weeks and finish upgrading her for a season in the Caribbean, starting in Bahamas and on to Cuba, Mexico and wherever else the wind is kind enough to take us. WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT? Anything and everything! This is a chance to get hands-on experience on a real long-distance cruising adventure. Our floating home is 20 years old and has been around the block a few times, including a transatlantic on her own keels. She's not new and shiny but she's solid and loves being out at sea. Along the way there will be teething problems to resolve on the spot, things will break and will need replacing, weather will dictate our schedule and we will all take turns at rolling up our sleeves and keeping the boat running. We will also swim, fish, snorkel, take in beautiful scenery - but most importantly, we will have fun in good company and keep a positive outlook, rain or shine (hopefully less of the former and more of the latter, especially as we get closer to Florida's tropical climate). Some experience being on a boat is preferable but not essential as long as you can pick things up quickly and keep your peepers peeled when keeping watch. THE SCHEDULE: Boarding will be possible from 8 Nov and planned departure is the second week of Nov, pending all the prep work being completed. You are welcome to move on board before departure, familiarise yourself with the boat and help out (especially if you don't have experience) - this will give you the opportunity to learn an offshore boat's systems and get first dibs on the best cabin. I'll be doing most of the electrical, rigging and mechanical work myself but an extra pair of hands and some company won't hurt, especially if you have some good playlists and jokes! WHAT IS INCLUDED AND WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CONTRIBUTE? You will need to cover your transportation to/from the boat, personal expenses, including groceries, customs/entry/exit fees, shore activities, and other travel costs. The boat’s maintenance, storage fees, docking fees, running costs and and repairs will be covered by me. Marina fees and fuel, if we use any, are shared equally. All boat duties and chores are equally shared amongst the crew. This includes keeping the boat clean, watch keeping, cooking and generally keeping the adventure going. THE BOAT: A sturdy and roomy bluewater catamaran with 4 en-suite double cabins - in need of some cosmetic TLC but with no expenses spared when it comes to safety. A full galley to cook meals, modern navigation electronics, a TV and a projector for the weekly movie night. THE CREW: We're a non-couple M+F of liberal views, believe that courtesy and kindness costs nothing and value boundaries. We both previously owned the same model boat and are well versed in cruising off-grid. We enjoy hiking, fishing, freediving, SCUBA diving (I'm an instructor and avid technical diver) and laughs. Sometimes at ourselves. We’re an alcohol-free crew while at sea (a drink or two at anchor is fine), and smoke-free, including vapes. Sorry no vegans - we love our cheese and bacon butties! YOU: We have no preference on gender as long as you can swim and have a good level of physical (and mental) fitness, for both yours and our safety. Maybe check you don't get seasick as it sucks to find out once on board. Besides having a blast sharing the adventure, you’ll also share responsibilities like night/day watches, food prep, cleaning, navigation, and boat maintenance. A positive attitude is key, even in less-than-perfect conditions. Certified divers and marine conservationists to the front of the queue and bonus points if you have some useful skills that will be an asset to the boat - including being a powerhouse of positive energy! HOW TO APPLY *please read this part carefully and message us with this info, or we won't know enough about you to consider you as a crew member* Send me a private message (make sure your profile is not set to private or send me a friend request if it is) with details about yourself, why you’d be a great fit, your experience if any and how you plan on supporting yourself financially while on board. Include how long you plan to be on board and anything that helps us get to know you better. The selection process is based on how well we click, so don't be shy - the more detail in your intro the better chance we'll shortlist you! Once we’ve connected, we’ll set up a video call to chat further
